Lucky Dog Organics

We are a small retailer dedicated to the spreading the importance of holistic health to pet owners while showing our dedication and commitment to the environment by sourcing and stocking non toxic, eco-friendly products. Our goal is to stock US made products whenever possible.

Lucky Dog Organics began in 2005 through a series of events that brought us to unexpected places. The steps we took in those early days would become what you see before you now.

Lucky Dawg

In the spring of 1995, while living in Denver, Colorado, I was approached by a homeless man begging me to take his dog. He could no longer afford to feed them both and I could not bare to see a dog suffer. I took the German Shepherd mix into my home with the intention of finding her a good home. Weeks later I found what I thought was the ‘perfect home’ for Lucky only to realize that there was no such thing. Lucky had become a part of my family. She was already in her perfect home.

As a teenager I became a vegetarian, and I delved into holistic health, homeopathy and naturpathic remedies for my own personal health issues and concerns. As an adult I made the difficult decision to eat meat again, but chose to do so in an informed ethical manner. Meanwhile, Lucky continued to eat grocery store food.

Lucky stayed with me when I moved across the country, first to NYC then on to Boston. Nine and a half years passed and on Halloween weekend of 2005 she began acting strangely. She was rushed to Angell Memorial and diagnosed with Cardiac Hemangiosarcoma; a tumor in her heart. The recommendation was immediate euthanasia. This was unacceptable to me. I took what I knew about alternative medicine and applied it to Lucky. For the first time I was taking care of Lucky the way I took care of myself. She thrived on the new holistic diet and naturpathic treatments. Were it not for the fact the cancer had already spread to her lungs, we might have beaten some odds. And so, surrounded by her closest human companions, Lucky passed, 3 months from her diagnosis date, on January 29th, 2006. The first day of the Year of The Dog.

Changes.

I really tried to assimilate back into my corporate jobs after Lucky passed but I just wasn't happy. I found out that Lucky may have had a longer healthier life had I always cared for her health as I did my own. I knew too much and I knew I needed to make a difference. I began a small holistically minded canine fitness and nutrition business but soon realized that I wanted to make available to people all of the products I love and that I was suggesting to people on a daily basis. All of these products that are eco friendly and non toxic, products that support the US economy by being made in the U.S.A, and most importantly, products that allow our dogs and cats to thrive through safe, natural, non-toxic and healthful ingredients and materials.

Bella McBratty.

A year and a half after Lucky had passed I received a phone call that there was a female Boxer, emaciated, in the back of a pick up truck, headed to the pound. I was not ready for another dog and planned, as I had with Lucky, to find Bella a good home. It took her being stolen on July 3rd for me to realize it was my job to care for this dog. Thanks to the help of the East Boston police and the kind man who saw Bella being dragged into an apartment and quickly alerted police, Bella and I were reunited. We have no intention of being separated any time soon. While I cannot bring Lucky back, I can ensure that Bella lives the happiest healthiest life possible. This will be accomplished by ensuring she eats the best food and receives the same homeopathic remedies for her ailments I give to myself. Bella and I rescued each other and together we seek to educate dog owners of their pet’s health and nutrition needs. .

Lucky Dog Organics is from Lucky, whose life was too short, through Bella and me, to other dogs and their owners for a rich and healthy long life in a world where the grass is a little bit greener.
